Citizenship Ceremony



Citizenship Ceremonies

Council hosts citizenship ceremonies throughout the year for Benalla Rural City residents on behalf of the Department of Immigration and Citizenship.
 
Applications for citizenship are made directly to the Department.  Once the Department has assessed and approved the application, the list of candidates is sent to Benalla Rural City Council for the ceremony and presentation of citizenship certificates.
 
Eligibility requirements
 
People who apply must: 
  • have successfully completed a citizenship test before applying
  • be aged 18 years or over at the time the application is made
  • be a permanent resident
  • satisfy the residence requirement
  • be likely to reside, or to continue to reside, in Australia or to maintain a close and continuing association with Australia; and
  • be of good character.
