Council Chambers & Civic Centre

Flags are raised for first time Following three years of planning, the Civic Precinct Revitalisation Project commenced in May 2013.

The project saw the heritage listed former Shire offices in Mair Street transformed into the new Civic Centre. It became home to the Council in August 2014.

Council meetings are held in the Council Chambers at 13-15 Mair Street, Benalla.

The refurbishment of the building presented challenges due to heritage constraints, particularly the retention of the distinctive “butterfly” roof line and matching paint colours and fittings.

The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags have been flown on a permanent basis next to the Australian, Victorian and Benalla Rural City Flags after all five were raised together for the first time at the launch of NAIDOC week activities on 3 July 2016.
