Law Enforcement Torch Relay
The Law Enforcement Torch Relay (LETR) is bringing their Special Olympics awareness tour to Benalla on Tuesday 18 September.
The LETR is a world wide movement in which police officers and Special Olympic athletes run the 'Flame of Hope' to the opening ceremony of local Special Olympic competitions. The LETR has existed globally since 1981 and the main purpose of the event is to raise awareness of the Special Olympic movement and athlete participation. The Victorian LETR members will fulfil their role as Guardians of the Flame in the delivering of the 'Flame of Hope' to the Special Olympics event to be held on the lower landings of the Langtree Connection.
To herald the tour's arrival it will make its way from the corner of Bridge and Smyth Street (KFC building) along Bridge Street to the Benalla Library at 2 Fawckner Drive. The walk/run event will culminate with the lighting of a cauldron by a Council representative and a nominated community representative. The tour will then depart Benalla for Wangaratta.
