Dog off-leash area

Benalla Rural City is a ‘dog on lead’ or ‘dog on leash’ area. This means that when walking, your dog must be on a lead at all times except in designated areas. Designated off-lead or ‘dog off leash’ areas are clearly marked with signs.

Dog off-leash areas include, Little Casey Island, behind Psaltis Parade and behind the Arundel Street Oval. Refer to the map for the exact locations.

Under the Domestic Animals Act 1994, all dogs must be under effective control when they’re not on their owner’s property. An owner must not allow their dog to worry, chase or threaten any person or animal. In any of the off-lead areas, the person in charge of a dog must remain in effective voice or hand control and be able to bring the dog under control with restraint if necessary.
