The Council is taking the opportunity of Volunteers Week, from 8 – 14 May to celebrate the vast and significant contribution volunteers make to the delivery of Council services and life in Benalla Rural City.

More than 450 individuals dedicate their time and skills to Council programs that support the delivery of Council programs and services.

This year’s theme is ‘Give Happy Live Happy’. Research shows that while the services of volunteers contribute to the lives of other people, their own lives are also improved by their work.

"I encourage everyone to get involved with volunteering in the local community," said Mayor, Cr Don Firth. "We have a wonderful culture of volunteering in Benalla Rural City, which contributes to the strength of our community.

"Great communities are supported by a wealth of programs. Finding new volunteers to support these programs can be a challenge," said Mayor Firth.

"On behalf of the Council and staff, I offer a public thank you to all who volunteer their service to enrich the community."

The Council is a mutual obligation provider, which means that Centrelink recognises those who are registered as Council volunteers. To find out more, contact Benalla Rural City’s Customer Service Centre on 03 5760 2600.
