Council’s annual Community Support Program now open

The Council’s annual Community Support Program provides funding for incorporated, community-based not for profit groups and organisations to assist in hosting events, activities and community-based initiatives.
The Council has committed $90,000 under its 2017/18 Budget for the Community Support Program which includes four categories. Community Grants up to $2500, Community Sponsorship, which is allocated monthly and is for amounts of up $500, Youth Participation Grants up to $1000 and Major Events Funding up to $1500.
“These grants support community driven initiatives such as hosting events, revitalizing community spaces, and purchasing much needed equipment,” said Mayor, Cr Don Firth.
“The Council is committed to building a healthy, active, safe and socially connected community that offers opportunities for people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities to participate in community life.
“The range of activities and initiatives covered by the Community Support Program is really broad and I encourage people to look at them and to consider applying,” said Cr Firth.
The Community Support Program opened on Monday 5 February 2018 and closes on Wednesday 21 March 2018.
Dorothy Webber, President, Benalla U3A said, “U3A Benalla really appreciated receiving a 2017 Benalla Rural City Council Community Grant. The grant enabled members of our group to access training to improve our social media skills.”
The Council will hold a grant writing information session to provide useful tips on how to prepare a successful grant application. Bookings for the information session are essential as places are limited and can be made by calling the Customer Service Centre on 03 5760 2600.

“This year FRRR (Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal) will be attending to provide information on grant seeking, including tips on preparing, planning and writing successful grant applications.”
The information session provides an opportunity for community groups to gain information about Council’s Community Support Program as well as grants available from FRRR, TomorrowToday Foundation and Valley Sport.
