Risk of Flood & Storm
Published on 01 December 2017
Thunderstorms and intense downpours will punctuate this weekend in the North East.
At this stage, we expect the rain to continue until some time on Sunday.
The predicted impact on Benalla is minor to moderate. We expect to close the Stockbridge and the Boardwalk around the lake. Water into homes and businesses in unlikely but may occur if storm drains can't take the rate of rain. We expect the impact of flooding to resemble 2011 and 2012 floods.
All state agencies are on alert. A great way to get updates is through the VicEmergency App.
The Benalla SES Facebook page is being updated regularly with publicly accessible information.
We have been working to reduce debris in the town drainage and have checked outfalls to ensure capacity is not impeded. If you see that a gutter is blocked and not draining, or if you notice that the roads are flooded or any other issue that will increase the risk of inundation, please contact us.
Call 132 500 from anywhere in Victoria for flood, storm, tsunami and earthquake emergency. For life-threatening emergencies call Triple Zero (000).
Take care. Stay indoors and be prepared. Read the Flood Guide released by the SES. You can find information on how your property may be impacted by flood using our Benalla Flood Information System.
