Local businesses who have supported the initiative gathered today at the BPACC celebrate the announcement from Deputy Premier and Minister for Regional and Rural Development Peter Ryan of $237,000. The funding comes from the Victorian Government’s Putting Locals First program and will contribute to a total project cost of $316,000.
The installation of a digital projector as part of the upgrade means that the cinema will qualify for screening new movies closer to release date.
Other improvements include upgrades to the kiosk and back of house change rooms including the kitchenette and dressing rooms, recarpeting, painting, electrics and lighting, streetscape works, external lighting and landscaping.
Benalla Rural City Council, Benalla and Mansfield Toyota, other local businesses, the Friends of BPACC and youth fundraising groups will also contribute to the project.
Benalla Rural City Mayor Barbara Alexander said that the upgrade to the cinema, theatre and conference facilities would create an even more vibrant hub for entertainment and engagement in Benalla.
“This has been an outstanding example of how local businesses, the community and the Council can work together on a project that will be of economic benefit to the whole municipality,” said Cr Alexander.
“As well as encouraging locals to enjoy their new movies locally, these upgrades will make us a more attractive venue for entertainers and event organisers. This means we can offer an even better theatre and music experience.”
Benalla Rural City Council assumed management of the BPACC in July 2012.
