Benalla Rural City Council has been recognised as the most improved council in Victoria in risk management by the Municipal Association of Victoria Liability Mutual Excellence Awards.
“Benalla Rural City Council scored 3% above the Victorian average, and was the highest of the North Central Rural Councils,” said Mayor Barbara Alexander.
“Risk management is important and touches every part of the Council’s operations. It helps to protect those who are using the Council services, people who work for the Council, and of course all of our ratepayers through minimising public liability exposure.”
Some of the highlights in the Council’s assessment in the 2010-2012 Audit carried out by MAV-LMI were:
- Embedding risk management improvements through documenting and regularly reviewing of risks, stakeholder consultation, and formalised procedures.
- Full marks in the Seasonal User agreements section.
- Building & Town Planning scored 97% up from 84%.
- 100% in Food section of Audit.
