Reclaimed pool area to make a splash in time for Festival
Disused pool infrastructure in Mair Street Benalla will begin to be removed in October, in time for the upcoming Benalla Festival.
The old water slide and smaller pools, which no longer meet safety standards and are at a level prone to flooding, will be dismantled. The pool holes will be filled in and the area will be revegetated, with landscaping following the natural contours of the area.
“The infrastructure had reached the end of its useful life, and plans for modern facilities will be developed in the coming year,” said General Manager Development and Environment Veronica Schilling.
Ms Schilling said she was confident that the work would be completed prior to the Mair Street Mural Party planned as part of the Benalla Festival in November.
“While the area will still be fenced to protect the growing grass, it will be much more attractive for our residents and visitors with the disused infrastructure gone,” she said.
Following extensive community consultation around the redevelopment of the Benalla Aquatic Centre, the 50 metre pool will remain in operation whilst machinery associated with the pool can be maintained.
