Benalla Rural City will host one of Australia’s largest and most popular motor race meetings, Historic Winton from 23 to 25 May 2014.
The popular all-historic meeting presents a weekend of non-stop racing, featuring over 400 historic racing cars and motorbikes from the 1920s to the 1980s.
The weekend will get underway with a classic car and motorbike tour on Friday, 23 May.
Tour organiser Graeme McDonald encouraged community members who have a veteran, vintage or classic car or truck to put the tour date in their diaries and start getting their vehicles ready to hit the road.
“The tour is proving more popular each year and we expect it to be even stronger this year,” Mr McDonald said. “Each year we change the touring route so people can really experience the region.”
Leaving from the Benalla Art Gallery at 10am, the tour stop at Tallis Wines to take in the beautiful views from the cellar door, the Thoona Pub for a heart lunch featuring local produce, the Winton Wetlands for a sneak preview of the Winton Wetlands History Exhibition (24 May to 1 June 2014) before making its way back to the Benalla Airport at around 4pm.
The day will end with a display for historical vehicles and vintage aircraft at the popular Aviation Museum.
“This event is becoming iconic in Benalla Rural City’s calendar,” said Mayor Cr Barbara Alexander. “Having Winton Motor Raceway in our municipality, along with so many talented and dedicated enthusiasts, allows us another way to showcase what our region has to offer and give our visitors a terrific time.”
