| Financial Counsellors provide a free service to assist people with debt and other financial issues. They have specialist knowledge and paralegal skills relating to credit and debt issues and the rights and obligations of their clients. The service is funded to assist families and individuals on low incomes who are experiencing problems with Debt Management or other money difficulties.
The work of a Financial Counsellor involves budgeting, debt management, advocacy and negotiation with creditors to resolve household debts and other money difficulties. The Financial Counsellor can provide para legal information and advocacy on an extensive range of issues relating to the inability to pay household bills, loans, credit cards, mortgages, rent, fines, taxation and bankruptcy. The service is available on Tuesdays by appointment only.
