The Maternal and Child Health Service is a service jointly funded by the Victorian State Government and Benalla Rural City.

The Maternal Child Health Service is designated to give parents support, advice and information about Child and Family Health issues and monitor growth, health, development and behaviour.

Enhanced Home visiting is also available for parents and children with special needs or other issues.

The Maternal Child Health Nurse has qualifications in General Nursing, Midwifery and Maternal and Child Health and Community Health. Other qualifications are Lactation Consultant registered with the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners.

There is no cost for these services and they are available to anyone with a child 0-6 years.

Enhanced Maternal & Child Health Service
The Enhanced Maternal & Child Health Service offers extra assistance to families with any parenting issues.

Referrals are made to local Maternal & Child Health nurses. You can refer yourself or be referred by a health worker or other health professional. For advice and information telephone Benalla Community Care at 45 Coster St on 5761 2200.

Who can use the Service?
Families with children 0-6 years who would like assistance with parenting issues. Including couples, teenage parents and single parents.

Priority is given to families with higher needs.

 
The Enhanced Maternal & Child Health Service can help with:
feeding difficulties (breast & bottle)
sleep and settling issues
premature & low birth weight
multiple births
children with disabilities or chronic illnesses
maternal health issues
post natal depression
children's behaviour problems
any parenting concerns
geographic isolation

What will the Maternal & Child Health Nurse do?
Provide professional and confident service.
Provide information and support.
Provide assistance to identify goals.
Provide supportive listening.
Provide referral to other services if needed.

The Enhanced Maternal & Child Health Service
The Enhanced Maternal and Child Health Service (EMCHS)is an extension of the to this service and offers additional in-home support to families requiring more frequent maternal and child health visits, for example those with babies who are premature or have low birth weight. The EMCHS also caters for families who have difficulty in accessing the Maternal and Child Health Service for a variety of reasons and for families with special needs.
