Local theatre makers will be presenting five new plays this week as a result of their participation in BPACC’s Seeding Local Stories initiative.

Kellie Grant, Olivia Jacobs, Tiff Lawrence, Ashley Merbach and Nic Stevens will present their works after a long collaboration with the producers of the popular Girls in Grey, which was performed at BPACC earlier this year.

The plays will be performed on Saturday 8 November at 4pm at BPACC. Entry is free and there will also be an opportunity for audience members to ask questions of the region’s newest and brightest performers, writers and directors.

The plays have been written under the guidance of Helen Hopkins and Carolyn Bock who wrote, produced and starred in Girls In Grey, a production about World War I Australian Army nurses.

Girls in Grey was inspired by the real diaries, letters and post war writings of the nurses, and Helen Hopkins and Carolyn Bock encouraged the participants in the Seeding Local Stories initiative to be similarly inspired by local history and stories for their own writings.

Funding secured by BPACC from the Australia Council has allowed Hopkins and Bock to return to Benalla several times during the project.

“This program is part of developing the enormous potential in our own community to tell our stories through theatre,” said BPACC’s Artistic Director Matt Scholten.

“We have many talented writers, directors and actors in our community, some of whom have now been able to benefit from the expertise and encouragement of very talented professionals.”

The plays to be presented are:

 Letter Wives by Ashley Merbach
The Last Oak by Olivia Jacobs
No Through Road by Tiffany Lawrence
 Fracture by Kellie Grant
 Disconnect by Nicole Stevens
