rotary exercise station with hands on learning students
Rotary Benalla partnered with Benalla P-12 College – Hands on Learning program and Benalla Rural City to place an exercise station with 6 pieces of equipment beside the Lakeside Walking track near the Mitchell Street reserve.

This Exercise equipment is the third station in the partnership to be placed around the lake with the first station being on Jaycee Island and the Second between the Tennis courts and the Art Gallery which is being used regularly by the public.

Rotary’s Ian Davies said ”Rotary jumped at the chance to support the Hands on Learning youth, we have always admired this program that is supported financially by The Tomorrow Today Foundation it gives young people a chance to get out of the classroom and learn skills whilst putting back into the community”. Rotary worked with Council to gain community support and find a suitable home for the exercise station. Together Rotary and “Hands on Learning” looked at many similar examples around Victoria before choosing and purchasing the robust equipment.

The Exercise Station was leveled and holes dug and foundations concreted by 20 students and 2 teachers over a number of separate working bees and all partners of the project are extremely happy with the Asset that the community can now enjoy. The project costs were met by Rotary - approximately $7000.00 in cost with about $3,000.00 of in kind labour. Rotary and “Hands on Learning” are happy to continue this partnership when suitable sites can be found around the lake.

“The Council was happy to assist Rotary in this important project,” said Mayor Cr Justin King. “The exercise and drinking stations are a way of encouraging fitness and health in the community without cost to those using it, and the involvement of the Hands-on Learning Program in building it is another benefit to the community. I congratulate Rotary Benalla for their commitment to the project.”
