Benalla Rural City is preparing for a celebration of the heart of country living in its long list of Australia Day events.
With the theme of “The Heart of the Country; celebrating our country spirit,” the day will be observed with presentations and events taking place across Benalla and surrounding rural villages.
The major event of the day is the Citizenship Ceremony and Presentations at BPACC, where the crowd will be entertained by Australian bush poet and children’s author Rhonda Tallnash, and a short film capturing the Heart of the Country theme by former local Christine Knight. Outstanding contributions to the community will be acknowledged through the Australia Day presentations.
“Australia day is about celebrating what’s great, so it’s easy to see why it is such a popular community event here in Benalla Rural City,” said Mayor Cr Justin King. “We have many great people, events and locations and that are worth celebrating.
“We have an abundance of individuals and groups who contribute tirelessly to service clubs, emergency services organisations, or who support the community in other ways. Australia Day is the perfect time to congratulate them, so please join us at one of the many events planned for presentations and acknowledgements.”
Events will also take place on the Lake Benalla Foreshore, in Baddaginnie, Devenish, Goorambat, Lima, Molyullah, Tatong, Thoona and Warrenbayne. A full program of events can be obtained on the Australia Day page, at the Customer Service Centre, 1 Bridge Street East, Benalla, or by calling 03 5760 2600.
