27 March: Council calls for comment on Environment Strategy Review  Printer Friendly

The Council is inviting residents and ratepayers in Benalla Rural City to give their feedback about how the Council manages its environmental responsibilities.

The Council is reviewing its Environment Strategy, which sets out principles and directions for the Council’s environmental management.

A series of interactive poster displays across the community will provide the opportunity for people to give their opinions about the things they value in the local environment, and their thoughts on the direction the Council should be taking to manage it.

“Is there something about the Benalla environment that you value?  We want to know what your current priorities are, after the last four years of implementing the Strategy,” said Mayor Cr Justin King.

The Council is inviting people to answer four short questions. These questions can be answered online through the Council website or on posters displayed at BPACC, the Visitor Information Centre, the Benalla Aquatic Centre, the Sir Edward “Weary Dunlop” Learning Centre, the Benalla Senior Citizens Centre, the Tatong notice board, the Swanpool Store and Swanpool Cinema, the Baddaginnie Op Shop, the Thoona, Devenish and Goorambat Post Offices, and at the Customer Service Centre. Each poster will have space for comments.

“By placing the posters in places that are highly accessible to large numbers of the community we hope to capture the attention of a broad range of residents, both rural and urban,” Cr King said.

“It is important to us that the Environment Strategy reflects the views and opinions of the community and everyone with an interest in our local environment.”

The poster displays will be in place until Thursday 23 April. The feedback received will be used to set the foundation for the remainder of the project to review the Environment Strategy. As with the current Environment Strategy, discussions with staff and with partner agencies will be based on the priorities set by the community.

People can also write submissions and return them by post to Benalla Rural City Council, PO Box 227, Benalla, 3671; in person to the Customer Service Centre, 1 Bridge Street East, Benalla, email them to council@benalla.vic.gov.au, or fill in the survey linked below.
