The Council is encouraging residents to contact the Council if they are having any issue with the roll-out of the organics waste bins ahead of the commencement of the new organics waste collection service starting on 1 July 2015.
The new green lid bins have been delivered across the urban area of Benalla, and Mayor Cr Justin King says the process has been relatively smooth, but some people are still unsure about some details of the service.
“The green lid bins will be emptied every week, and the red lid waste bins and yellow lid recycling bins will be emptied every other week, beginning from 1 July,” Cr King said.
“The day of the week hasn’t changed, but if people are unsure about which week to put out which bin, an information sheet has been delivered to all households, they can find a map on our website at www.benalla.vic.gov.au or they can call the Customer Service Centre on 03 5760 2600,” he said.
Cr King said that there had been a few small hiccups but that given the size of the project, it was all running very smoothly so far.
“Some people received bins in error for the organic waste collection service, and we have been working with them to retrieve the bins. Anyone with the organics waste bins who is not in the urban area of Benalla can just leave the green-lid bin where they would usually put their other bins, and it will be collected,” he said.
Because of privacy issues, Cr King said contractors were required to leave the green lid bins, kitchen caddies and compostable bin bags on the nature strip rather than on people’s properties, and as a result, a small number of kitchen caddies had been stolen or kicked down the road.
“If people are missing a kitchen caddy or compostable bin bags, or if they believe they have received the wrong bin size, they can contact the Council and we will replace them,” he said.
