|The Council is using an online budget modelling tool to encourage people to have their say on the Benalla Aquatic Centre redevelopment project. |
A combination of five options to redevelop the Aquatic Centre are being presented to the community, including an internal water slide, an additional internal program pool, refurbishment of the outdoor seasonal pool, extension to the gymnasium and fitness area, and an external splash park.
The options have been identified and costed following extensive community consultation and a subsequent feasibility study. People wishing to give their feedback can go to www.benalla.vic.gov.au and follow the links to have their say.
“We had a very long wish list following previous community consultation, and we had to pare it back to what be a realistic potential cost,” said Cr Margaret Richards, chair of the working group which is leading the redevelopment project.
“The online budget tool will allow people to see the impact of their choices on the project, and help people understand the longer term cost impact of their preferences,” Cr Richards said.
“The Aquatic Centre is a highly valued community asset, and is an important part of promoting health and wellbeing in our community,” she said. “It started life as a sheltered swimming spot on the Broken River and has grown to meet each subsequent generation’s needs. It now offers high quality aquatic and dry space fitness activities, but we want everyone to contribute to this consultation so that we can meet the needs of future generations as well.”
This is one of five projects the Council is getting ‘shovel ready’ for the next Council to consider. A report on the preferred options for the Aquatic Centre redevelopment will be presented to the Council in late 2015. If this is adopted, then an incoming Council in 2016 will be able to decide whether the project will proceed, subject to funding from the State and Federal Governments.
Submissions can be made via www.benalla.vic.gov.au, by email to firstname.lastname@example.org, by post to the Council, PO Box 227, Benalla, 3671, or left at the Customer Service Centre, 1 Bridge Street East, Benalla. Submissions close 5pm, Friday 2 October 2015.
