Mayor Cr Justin King has expressed his appreciation for proposed action by VicRoads to put safety measures in place along the Midland Highway between Benalla and Mansfield where several serious accidents have occurred.
Cr King asked VicRoads to address the issue following a recent spate of incidents.
“The Council met last month with representatives from VicRoads and Victoria Police, who were equally concerned about the high level of serious incidents on that stretch of road,” said Cr King.
“VicRoads have indicated they will install audio tactile centreline marking which alerts drivers when they are straying out of their lane. They will also investigate signage and other options to improve road safety,” he said.
“The incidents on that stretch of the road have taken a terrible toll on our community, and I hope that these actions will help to prevent such incidents happening again.”
