The Benalla Festival’s hay fever is set spread even more with an exciting new twist to last year’s popular hay bale art competition for the Benalla Festival to be held from 31 October – 8 November.
The Farm Art competition will now include artworks made from materials which can be found on the farm turned into creative works of art based on the Festival theme Heart of the Country which celebrates the spirit of country living.
More than 22 entries were received for the inaugural event last year.\
“The Farm Art Touring Trail will again take visitors on a journey from Benalla around our rural villages, where theres lots for visitors to discover,” said Benalla Rural City Mayor, Cr Justin King.
“This is a fun and creative event for all ages to get involved with and provides an excellent opportunity to link Benalla to our rural villages, as well as great prizes for the winners,” Cr King said.
“Entrants are encouraged to turn natural farm produce such as hay bales, straw and recycled materials like corrugated iron, farm implements and machinery into a piece of art that surprises and delights visitors along the touring trail,” said the Farm Art event coordinator Tracey Hooper.
“The 2014 hay bale art competition was extremely popular so we are aiming for continued interest with this year’s new take on the event,” Ms Hooper said.
Cr King said the Benalla Festival Advisory Committee had planned a diverse program of events for the community to come along and enjoy.
“Events like the Festival attract visitors to our rural city and help our economy grow. Our sponsors’ investment in the Benalla Festival is a reflection of the Festival’s significance and value.”
Entries for the Farm Art Touring Trail close on 9 October, with categories for schools and open class for individuals, property owners, an organisation or a group. Prizes include $500 for a nominated school or community group.
This event is proudly sponsored by McDonald’s Benalla & Euroa and the Benalla Ensign.
The program for the Benalla Festival will be released shortly.
