People in Benalla Rural City are asked to continue to leave old bins on their nature strip for collection following the roll-out of a new waste service.
Veronica Schilling, Acting CEO, said: “Our contractors are working hard to collect all old waste bins following the roll-out of the new bins. If your bin has not yet been collected, please continue to leave it on the nature strip. If it is not there when the contractors arrive, you may receive an invoice for retaining it.”
Ms Schilling said that regardless of the new waste service, many old bins needed to be replaced as they were nearing the end of their useful life.
“Many are already deteriorating and cracked, and the majority would most likely fail within the next two years. It was more economical for the Council to replace them all as part of the new waste service roll-out than to wait for individual bins to fail,” Ms Schilling said.
All of the old bins will be recycled or offered for sale, based on their condition. The sale of bins will be advertised in due course.
