Extreme heat
Extreme heat has led to more deaths than any other natural disaster in Australia. In Victoria 374 people died in 2009 and 167 in 2014 due to extreme heat. People most at risk include those who live alone, people aged over 65, babies and young children and people who already have a medical condition or take certain medications.

On days of extreme heat, check on family, friends and neighbours most at risk to make sure they are okay. The Council may open “cooler places” for relief. Visit www.benalla.vic.gov.au during periods of extreme heat for more information.
