1 February: Information sessions for Community Support grants  Printer Friendly

The Council is holding two information sessions about its Community Support Program, including Community Grants, Youth Participation Grants and Major Event funding, which open on Monday 1 February 2016.

Examples of projects the Council funded last year include:

Renovation of the floor at the Baddaginnie Hall by Baddaginnie Community Inc.
A website and the 2015 Benalla Swanpool Environmental Film Festival run by the Sustainable Futures Group.
The purchase of a photocopier for the Benalla Girl Guides..

The Council in partnership with Tomorrow: Today Foundation and Sport and Recreation Victoria will be conducting two information sessions in February where interested people can learn more about the Community Support Program and other current funding opportunities available.

“Anyone planning community or major events, activities or small infrastructure and equipment purchases should consider attending these information sessions, as well as young people with an idea for a community project,” said Mayor Cr Justin King.

“They will gain valuable insights and helpful tips on how to prepare a successful grant application,” he said.

The Council contributes approximately $90,000 annually to support community driven initiatives and events.  Community Grants provide an opportunity for community groups and not-for-profit organisations to seek funding of up to $2,500 to assist in the development of facilities, programs, activities and projects that will assist in building healthy, vibrant and sustainable communities across the municipality. Youth Participation Grants, now in their second year, Youth Participation Grants will provide funds of up to $1,000 for eligible projects, activities and events, which may include leadership programs, fundraising projects, healthy living initiatives and other youth-led ideas. Major Event funding provides up to $1500 for events run by incorporated community based and not-for-profit groups and organisations.

“These grants are part of the Council’s commitment to building a healthy, active, safe and socially connected community that offers opportunities for people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities to participate in community life,” Cr King said.

Debbie Rees from Broken River Environment Group which received a grant last year said:

"Council funding enabled our small community group to purchase a laptop computer. This has meant that we are now able to safely and securely store all of the group's information in the one place, and we can use the computer to host presentations."
