Mayor Cr Justin King has been appointed by the Minister for Local Government to the Local Government Mayoral Advisory Panel (LGMAP).
The panel provides high level advice to the Minister on the range of legislative, regulatory, strategic and policy decisions which impact on local government. Members are selected based on their experience and participation in other groups, with consideration given to diversity in experience, expertise and background.
“I am honoured to have been selected to participate in this important panel along with 11 highly qualified mayoral colleagues from other municipalities,” Cr King said.
“My participation gives Benalla Rural City a voice at a very high level, and the opportunity to influence legislation and policy around how the State Government works with Local Government.
“I will also be able to represent the common needs of rural and regional Councils across Victoria.
“The relationship between local and state government is vital to councils’ day to day running, with significant implications for funding and regulation. I am pleased that the State Government provides this forum for Mayors representing councils across Victoria.
“The councillors and CEO are always looking for ways to advocate for Benalla Rural City at State and Federal Government, and we work hard to ensure that the challenges we face are put before Members of Parliament, Senators and advisors at the highest levels. This is another opportunity for me to represent the experience of regional and rural communities in an influential forum.”
