|Victoria Police, Benalla Rural City Council, local service clubs and other organisations will present the Victoria Police and Benalla Volunteers Community Day in the Benalla Botanical Gardens on Saturday 21 May 2016 from 10am-3pm. |
The event, which is a celebration of volunteering in the community, will help people learn more about volunteering opportunities across Benalla Rural City. It will feature promotional, educational and interactive displays and demonstrations together with music from the Victoria Police Pipe Band.
The event aims to connect with the community to improve and strengthen relationships between the community and Victoria Police, emergency services, government agencies and service clubs.
There will be information about volunteering for emergency services CFA, SES, Ambulance, Neighbourhood Watch, the Blue Ribbon Foundation, the Council and The Centre (Skillsbank).
Activities include the Police Cobber Car and miniature uniforms for children, a Benalla Lions Club barbecue, and an appearance by Constable T Bear.
“This is a free day full of demonstrations, fun activities and information that we hope will encourage people to engage with the different services available in their area, and to find something that they find appealing to volunteer for,” said Senior Constable Mark Kennedy, Crime Prevention Officer for Victoria Police Benalla.
“There are a wide variety of ways that people can volunteer through the Council,” said Chair of the Council’s Volunteers Advisory Committee, Cr Barbara Alexander, AO.
“Opportunities include Meals on Wheels, our Planned Activities Group, volunteer transport, our many advisory committees, special events such as Australia Day and the Benalla Festival, and the Friends of the Benalla Art Gallery and the Friends of BPACC,” Cr Alexander said.
“The citizens of Benalla Rural City are very community minded and are eager to volunteer their time and expertise to make this an even better place to live and work. The Council is pleased to be part of this event to help people find the activity that best suits them,” she said.
