Benalla Rural City Council acknowledges the achievements, successes and positive contributions young people make to the community. The Benalla Youth Creating Change Awards highlight young people aged 12 to 25 who live, study, work or participate in volunteer roles within Benalla Rural City.

An event to celebrate the Awards is planned for July, COVID-19 restrictions permitting. Details will be announced soon.

A Benalla Rural City Council Youth Week 2021 initiative supported by the Victorian Government.

Criteria

  • Nominees must be aged between 12 and 25 years of age as of 25 June 2021
  • Nominees must live, work, volunteer or study in the Benalla Rural City municipality
  • Young people who have relocated as a result of study or work commitments are still eligible as a nominee, if they have lived, worked, volunteer or studied in the Benalla Rural City over the past 12 months

 

Award categories

Sport and Recreation

This award is for a young person who is strongly committed to sports or recreation. This could be demonstrated through always showing good sportsmanship or teamwork, taking on roles of leadership within their sport or consistently achieving their best

Contribution to the Community

This award recognises a young person who is committed to providing a positive impact in their community through leadership and outstanding dedication. This may be demonstrated through volunteering for the community or encouraging others to become involved in the community.

Music and Performing Arts

This award recognises a young person who displays their skills or talent through music and/or performing arts. This may be demonstrated by being actively involved in live performances, using their talent to make a contribution to the community or consistently excelling and performing to the best of their abilities.

Visual Arts and Media

This award recognises a young person who shows a strong commitment to visual arts and media. This could be demonstrated through creating unique and original works, mentoring those who are interested in the field or committing to artistic excellence.

Employment Achievement

This award recognises a young person engaging in full or part-time work, a traineeship or apprenticeship who consistently shows a high level of dedication, professionalism and strong work ethic. This could be demonstrated through leadership and mentoring of other workers, consistently delivering excellent customer service or going above and beyond their normal work duties.

Academic Achievement

This award recognizes a young person who is enthusiastic, motivated and dedicated to aspects of academic study. This may be demonstrated through achievement or excelling in one or more academic field, seeking to extend their learning or consistently performing to the best of their abilities.

Advocacy and Action

This award recognises a young person who shows enthusiasm and commitment to making a positive change to the community. This may be displayed through addressing a community need or issue or showing dedicated support to an advocacy organization.

Group Community Involvement

This award recognises a group of young people who are committed to participation in the Benalla Rural City Community. This could be demonstrated through an active and constructive role in the community, commitment to the improvement or wellbeing of others or making a positive contribution to an organisition or group that is community focused.

 

 

Who can nominate?

Anyone can nominate a young person for an award. You don't have to be a resident of Benalla. You can be a professional, a neighbour, a relative. You can be a young person yourself. You can even self-nominate.
