Council awards more than $76,000 in grants

The Council awarded $76,666 to 45 community groups and event organisers in its annual Community Support Program at a presentation event at the Sir Edward Weary Dunlop Learning Centre on Thursday 7 June 2018.

Under the Community Support Program, the Council allocates up to $64,666 under the Community Grants Program and Youth Participation Grants and up to $12,000 for Major Events.

32 not-for-profit community based organisations received funding of up to $2,500 under the Community Grants Program for projects and activities that assist in building healthy, vibrant and sustainable communities across the Benalla Rural City.

Three groups received funding of up to $1,000 under the Youth Participation Grants program for youth led projects that are driven and delivered by young people for young people.

10 event organisers received funding of up to $1,500 under the Major Event Funding program for events that provide measurable economic benefit and enhance the image and liveability of Benalla Rural City.

Mayor, Cr Don Firth said the Community Support Program demonstrates Council support for community-based growth through projects and activities.

“The social and economic benefit to Benalla Rural City of these projects and events is immense,” said Cr Firth.

“I commend and congratulate all the individuals and organisations who have taken the initiative to plan their projects and apply to the Council for support.”
