Benalla Rural City Councillor and former Deputy Mayor, Cr Peter Davis was recently presented with a Councillor Service Award for 15 years of continuous service at the recent Municipal Association of Victoria (MAV) Conference Dinner, held in Melbourne.

The Victorian Councillor Service Awards was established by the MAV in order to recognise the contribution of long serving Councillors across the State.

When congratulating Cr Davis, Mayor Cr Bernie Hearn said that this was an incredible achievement that reflected the level of dedication and commitment Cr Davis has for his community.

“The fundamental role of a Councillor is to represent and serve their community and Cr Davis’ passion, knowledge and dedication to his community is testament to his commitment as a Councillor, and I congratulate him on his outstanding contribution to the Benalla and District Community,” Cr Hearn said.

Cr Davis was first elected to Benalla Rural City Council on 30 November 2005, and he has remained an elected official for the Benalla community for the past 17 years. Cr Davis was elected Deputy Mayor on 14 November 2018 which he served for 12 months until 13 November 2019.

Cr Davis said it had been an honour to continuously serve his community as a Councillor for the past 17 years.

“The positive changes I have seen over the 17 years as a Councillor have been humbling to watch and I’m honoured to have been a driver in that change.

Being a Councillor is still a role I greatly enjoy, and I am continually proud of the way Council and the organisation work together to serve the community.”
