In celebration of National Education Week, Benalla Rural City Council is encouraging residents of all ages to discover the wide range of free education opportunities available at the Sir Edward ‘Weary’ Dunlop Learning Centre (Benalla Library).

The Benalla Library serves as a community hub for lifelong learning, offering access to resources, digital tools, and regular events that help locals build new skills and connect with others.

Mayor Cr Bernie Hearn said the library plays a vital role in making education accessible to everyone in the community.

“Our library is a fantastic place for everyone to have the opportunity to learn something new every visit,” Cr Hearn said. “Whether you are a parent or grandparent bringing a toddler to story time, a teenager looking for after-school fun, or a senior wanting to learn a new skill, there is something here for everyone.”

The Benalla Library offers tailored education programs designed to support every stage of life:

  • Early childhood: Programs like Story Time, Cushion Concerts, and Rhyme Time introduce the joy of reading and music to our youngest residents (0 to 6 years).
  • Young people: A range of School Holiday and After School Education Programs keep minds active, while the popular Dungeons and Dragons sessions build teamwork and problem-solving skills for teenagers and young adults.
  • Adults and all ages: The library provides books on learning new skills, adult easy readers, and thousands of digital resources like e-books and audiobooks. It also hosts author talks, board games, and offers free access to computers. For those looking to boost their technology skills, the library provides basic digital help.

Residents can easily find out what is happening each month by picking up a hard copy of the ‘What’s On’ booklet at the library or viewing the digital booklet online.

“We want everyone to know that learning does not stop when you leave school,” Cr Hearn said. “I encourage all residents to drop in, sign up for a free membership, and see what our wonderful library has to offer.”

To find out more or view the monthly program booklet, visit The Benalla Library at the Sir Edward ‘Weary’ Dunlop Learning Centre, go to www.benalla.vic.gov.au or contact the library on 03 5762 2069.
