Benalla Rural City Council would like to thank the community for their patience and understanding during the recent flooding and for the measures they took to keep themselves, their families and the crews working on flood mitigation and clean up safe.
Broken River peaked at the Moderate Flood Level of 3.71 metre, though there were still significant impacts on the community including road, infrastructure and recreation area closures. The library was also closed on Monday 10 August as a precautionary measure while the flood waters were still rising, though it reopened the following day.
While the clean-up is ongoing, we’d like to remind everyone not to drive through floodwater, obey all road closure signs and barriers, slow down near emergency services and road crews and always follow the directions of Victoria Police, Benalla SES and Council crews.
Mayor Cr Bernie Hearn expressed her thanks to the local community for their support and understanding in the wake of the flooding.
