Australia Day is a time to reflect on what it means to be part of the Benalla Rural City community and to celebrate the people who help make our region a welcoming, connected and inclusive place.

Each year, Council delivers a meaningful Australia Day program that brings the community together to recognise outstanding local contributions, welcome new citizens and celebrate the diversity and strength of our region.

Central to delivering this program is the Australia Day Advisory Committee – a community‑based group that helps shape how Australia Day is celebrated across Benalla Rural City.

Australia Day Advisory Committee – Call for Nominations

Benalla Rural City Council is inviting nominations from community members to join the Australia Day Advisory Committee.

The Committee plays an important role in supporting Council with:

• the Australia Day Awards nominations and selection process
• the planning and delivery of the Australia Day program
• ensuring celebrations reflect the values, diversity and community spirit of the region

These roles provide an opportunity to help recognise local champions and contribute to a day that is meaningful, inclusive and respectful for our whole community.

Who can nominate?

Nominations are encouraged from interested community members and district representatives, particularly from the following areas where vacancies currently exist:

• Baddaginnie
• Goomalibee
• Lima / Swanpool
• Molyullah
• Warrenbayne
• Winton

Appointments are for a three‑year term.

No previous committee experience is required—just a genuine interest in community recognition and Australia Day celebrations in Benalla Rural City.
