Benalla Rural City Council is proud to offer free community training as part of the Free from Violence program. The Responding to Disclosures of Family Violence session is designed to help participants identify signs of family violence, ask the right questions, and respond in a safe, supportive, and understanding way to adults who share their experiences.
Event details:
When: 5pm – 8pm Wednesday 30 July 2025
Where: Benalla Lakeside Community Centre
Entry: This free training is open to all community members aged 18 and over.
Mayor Cr Bernie Hearn highlighted the importance of this training and its role to assist in helping to recognise and identify the signs of family violence.
“This training is a great chance for our community to come together and learn how to help people facing family violence. It gives you the skills to listen, respond kindly, and offer support,” Cr Hearn said.
The program is funded by the Victorian Government’s Free from Violence initiative, with additional support from the Benalla Social Inclusion Action Group.
“We are thankful to have the support of the Victorian Government and the Benalla Social Inclusion Action Group. Their help makes it possible to offer this free training to everyone in our community.”
“I encourage everyone to consider taking part in this free training. Family violence can affect anyone, you can help make our community a place where everyone feels safe,” Cr Hearn added.
The Responding to Disclosures of Family Violence training session is free to attend, but places are limited. Community members aged 18 and over are encouraged to register early to secure their spot.
