Council seeks community feedback on future transport plans

24 April 2026

Benalla Rural City Council has placed two key strategic documents on public exhibition, inviting the community to help shape the future of local transport and road safety.

Following the Council meeting held on 22 April 2026, the draft Road Safety Strategy and Action Plan 2025-2030 and the draft Active Transport Plan 2025-2030 are now open for public feedback for a period of 28 days. The public exhibition period will close on 21 May 2026.

The draft Road Safety Strategy and Action Plan 2025-2030 outlines a comprehensive approach to reducing road trauma and improving safety across the municipality. It focuses on creating safer road environments, promoting safe speeds, and supporting safe road users. Community input is vital to ensure the strategy addresses local concerns and reflects the lived experiences of residents navigating both rural and urban road networks.

Alongside the safety strategy, the draft Active Transport Plan 2025-2030 aims to encourage walking, cycling, and other physical modes of travel within Benalla. This plan identifies opportunities to enhance local infrastructure, create better pathway connections, and promote healthier, more sustainable transport options for people of all ages and mobility levels.

Council considers community feedback an essential part of the planning process. Residents, business owners, and community groups are encouraged to review the draft documents and share their thoughts before the exhibition period closes. The feedback collected over the next 28 days will directly inform the final versions of both plans, ensuring they meet the needs of the growing community.

Copies of the draft Road Safety Strategy and Action Plan 2025-2030 and the draft Active Transport Plan 2025-2030 are available for viewing on the Benalla Rural City Council website. Physical copies can also be accessed at the Benalla Civic Centre. Written submissions can be made online or sent directly to the Council office before the consultation period concludes.
