Council seeks community feedback on proposed Tesla EV charging station

10 April 2026

Benalla Rural City Council is inviting community feedback on a proposal to lease a section of the Barkly Street Carpark in Benalla to Tesla for the development of a new Electric Vehicle (EV) charging station.

The proposed site is located next to the ALDI supermarket, just off Bridge Street East, within a defined section of the Barkly Street Carpark. Under the proposal, Tesla would lease the area for an initial term of five years, with two additional five‑year options to extend.

If progressed, the project would deliver eight dedicated EV charging spaces, increasing local charging capacity, supporting tourism and helping prepare Benalla for the growing transition to electric vehicles.

Council is encouraging community members to review the proposal and provide feedback as part of the formal consultation process. All submissions will be considered before Council makes any final decision regarding the proposed lease.

The consultation period is now open and will close on Thursday 23 April 2026.
