The kettle is on and the tables are set, as the Devenish community gets ready to welcome friends, neighbours and visitors to its much-loved Biggest Morning Tea on Friday 13 June, from 10am to 1pm at the Devenish Pavilion.
Now marking 25 years of community generosity, the event is part of Cancer Council Australia’s national campaign to raise funds for cancer research, prevention, treatment, and services. It also aims to support the wellbeing of older community members and residents in aged care facilities.
Attendees are encouraged to bring a gold coin donation, enjoy raffle prizes, and savour homemade treats, tea, coffee, and light refreshments, all while soaking up the friendly atmosphere.
The event is being organised by For The Good of Devenish Committee, led by President June Howard and Secretary/Treasurer, Diane Young, whose dedication continues to make the event a highlight on the local calendar.
The community initiative is proudly supported by Benalla Rural City Council. This initiative aligns with Council’s Age Friendly Action Plan and is supported by the Age Friendly Benalla Reference Group.
Mayor Cr Bernie Hearn commended the community for its ongoing support of such a meaningful cause.
“It’s truly inspiring to see Devenish rally year after year in support of cancer research and community wellbeing” said Cr Hearn.
“This kind of grassroots action not only raises crucial funds but also strengthens the fabric of our community. I commend the organisers and everyone involved.”
The Biggest Morning Tea is one of Australia’s largest fundraising initiatives, with a national goal of raising over $15 million annually for the Cancer Council.
