Safe roads are essential for a connected and healthy community. The Benalla Road Safety Strategy and Action Plan 2025-2030 (the Strategy) sets out a coordinated plan to reduce road trauma across Benalla Rural City. Its goal is to halve the number of road fatalities and reduce serious injuries by 30 per cent by 2030, compared with the 2018-2020 baseline.
The Strategy has been developed using local crash data, community feedback and best-practice road safety principles. It aligns with national and state road safety strategies and supports a safer, more accessible transport network for everyone, whether they travel by car, motorcycle, bicycle or on foot.
The Strategy responds to key road safety challenges across the municipality. It recognises the higher vulnerability of motorcyclists, older road users, pedestrians and cyclists, while also addressing community concerns about speeding, unsafe driver behaviour and rural road safety. Through targeted actions and strong partnerships, the Strategy aims to make travel safer for all road users and help create a safer future for the Benalla community.
