Benalla Rural City Council, together with the Benalla Business Network and the Benalla Art Gallery Foundation, invites local businesses, tourism operators and community leaders to a dynamic Business After Hours event exploring how cultural investment can drive regional prosperity.
This engaging session examines the measurable economic and community impacts of the 2021 redevelopment of the Shepparton Art Museum (SAM), offering timely insights as the Benalla Art Gallery progresses its own major upgrade.
Attendees will gain practical understanding of how cultural infrastructure can activate local economies, attract new audiences and reinforce community identity.
A panel of respected leaders in regional cultural development will share their expertise:
- Lindy Nieuwenhuizen — CEO, Committee for Greater Shepparton Lindy represents nearly 120 organisations focused on strengthening regional prosperity. Her background spans regional development, governance and community-building, with a strong emphasis on the role of arts investment in attracting talent and supporting thriving economies.
- Danny Lacy — Artistic Director, Shepparton Art Museum With more than 25 years’ experience across Victorian public galleries, Danny leads the artistic vision of the $50 million SAM. His career includes roles at Mornington Peninsula Regional Gallery, West Space and ACCA, and he currently serves as President of the Public Galleries Association of Victoria.
- Eric Nash — Director, Benalla Art Gallery Since 2019, Eric has led one of northeast Victoria’s most significant cultural institutions. His experience spans regional galleries in Townsville and the Centre for Contemporary Photography, and he contributes to statewide arts development through NETS Victoria.
- Penny Whitehead — Business Development Manager, Benalla Art Gallery Foundation (Host) Penny supports the Foundation’s philanthropic and community engagement work, drawing on senior roles at Geelong Gallery, Abercrombie & Kent and Yering Station, alongside extensive experience with regional business and tourism networks.
