Benalla Rural City Council is excited to announce the installation of a new flying fox at Fawckner Drive Reserve, located between the skate park and BMX track.
This project marks the first project delivered from the Fawckner Drive Precinct Masterplan, signalling the beginning of a broader transformation of the area.
The new Flying fox will provide endless fun for young locals and visitors alike, featuring a double-seat design with both a disk seat and a bucket seat to ensure accessibility and enjoyment for everyone. Additionally, a rubber-surfaced pathway will encircle the play area, with wood chip soft fall extending to the borders for added safety and comfort.
Mayor Cr Bernie Hearn is thrilled about the first addition to the Fawckner Drive precinct.
“This project shows how important it is to have a clear vision and a strong grant advocacy strategy in place. By identifying priorities and aligning them with funding opportunities, we’re able to deliver real improvements for our community, starting with this exciting new flying fox at Fawckner Drive Reserve.”
“This project is another step towards realising Council’s vision for this precinct, as set out in the Fawckner Drive Masterplan,” Cr Hearn said.
The flying fox is expected to be completed in the first week of June, with minimal disruption to the surrounding area. It will soon be complemented by the installation of a new pump track and accessible footpaths, further enhancing recreational opportunities for the Benalla community. The flying fox is proudly funded by the Victorian Government Department of Justice Creating Safer Places grant program.
Following the installation of the flying fox, Council will begin work on a new pump track, supporting infrastructure, and a network of accessible paths throughout the precinct. These upgrades form part of a $1 million grant from Sport and Recreation Victoria, secured through Council’s master planning and grant advocacy efforts to deliver inclusive, high-quality recreational spaces for the Benalla Rural City community.
