Free busking returns early to bring cheer to Benalla

02 October 2026

Benalla’s much-loved Free Christmas Busking program is starting earlier this year, kicking off on Saturday, 14 November, and running right through to Christmas Eve. The early start ties in with the launch of the Christmas Cheer Giving Campaign, giving locals even more reasons to head into town this festive season.

Buskers wanting to take part need to register for a free permit before they perform. This ensures every busker is covered by Council’s insurance while entertaining crowds on the street. Once registered, performers can take their pick from seven busking bases set up along Bridge Street East, each offering a great spot to share some Christmas cheer with the community.

The Christmas Cheer Giving Campaign is coordinated by the Tomorrow Today Foundation, working in partnership with the Salvation Army and Ray White Benalla. The campaign also has the backing of the Benalla Business Network and Benalla Rural City Council, bringing together local organisations to support the community over the festive period.

Residents are encouraged to visit the Benalla CBD throughout the festival season to enjoy performances at any of the seven busking bases and shop local.

Buskers keen to take part can register for their permit through Council’s website, where a new Christmas activations link has been added to the home page for easy access.

Council looks forward to seeing the community come together to celebrate the season, one song at a time.
