Grants strengthen inclusion in Benalla

The Benalla and District Social Inclusion Action Group (SIAG) has approved 26 grants in its latest round of community funding. These grants will support a wide range of community-led activities, from cultural celebrations and gatherings to programs addressing social, economic, and geographic barriers to connection.

Of the 26 grants awarded, six First Nations and 20 Social Connection grants were provided to local organisations working to reduce isolation, build belonging, and support community wellbeing across Benalla Rural City.

First Nations grants directly support culture, self-determination, and community wellbeing within the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community of Benalla Rural City. The Social Connection grants will help individuals and groups facing isolation to take part in community life and feel more included.

First Nations Grants for 2026

  • Benalla Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Caucus and Advisory Group Caucus – $5,000 – Series of Cultural Programs
  • Tomorrow Today Education Foundation Ltd – $5,000 -Walk in Our Elders’ Footsteps
  • Victorian Aboriginal Child and Community Agency, Wangaratta VIC – $5,000 -KoorieOke: Loud, Proud & Deadly
  • Wamnda Community House – $4,500 -Aboriginal Art Installation
  • Benalla Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Caucus and Advisory Group – $5,000 -Benalla NAIDOC Week Event – Community Family Day

The Benalla and District SIAG is auspiced by Benalla Rural City Council and funded by the Victorian Government Department of Health. The program takes a community-driven approach to social inclusion and mental wellbeing. It works alongside local organisations to support projects that deliver lasting, meaningful outcomes.

This round of community grants builds on the Benalla and District SIAG’s track record of supporting grassroots action across the region, which has already funded 45 events and activities and reached communities in 11 rural towns across Benalla Rural City.
