Have you nominated someone for Benalla’s Australia Day Awards yet?

28 October 2025

Australia Day is an opportunity for our community to come together to celebrate the achievements of our outstanding citizens.

The Benalla Rural City Australia Day Awards acknowledge the commitment, dedication and invaluable achievements of our many community members, who selflessly contribute, and make our Rural City such a special, positive, and vibrant place to call home.

Mayor of Benalla Rural City Council and Chair of the Australia Day Advisory Committee Cr Bernie Hearn said the awards are a chance to celebrate the people who make a big difference in our region.

“Every year, we see incredible examples of community spirit, leadership and dedication through the Australia Day Awards,” Cr Hearn said.

“These are the people and groups who roll up their sleeves, lend a hand, and make Benalla a more connected and caring place. Taking some time to nominate them is a wonderful way to show your appreciation.”

The awards recognise outstanding contributions across four categories:

  • Citizen of the Year
  • Young Citizen of the Year
  • Community Event or Project of the Year
  • Community Group of the Year.

“Our 2025 award recipients are perfect examples of the positive impact of community involvement,” she said.

“Citizen of the Year, Michele Ramage, was recognised for her tireless work with local arts, youth and cultural programs. Junior Citizen of the Year, Mikayla Borradale, showed inspiring leadership and commitment to community service.”

“The Walk for Mental Health was named Community Event of the Year for bringing people together to promote wellbeing and reduce stigma around mental illness. Tomorrow Today, our Community Group of the Year, continues to make a lasting difference through its work to improve education and opportunity for local families.”

Cr Hearn encouraged residents to think about those who go above and beyond in their communities.

“We all know someone who makes a difference. Whether it’s through volunteering, running a community event, mentoring others or simply being a positive force in our town.”

“These awards are our chance to say thank you and to celebrate the very best of Benalla Rural City,” Cr Hearn added.
Nominations for the 2026 Benalla Rural City Australia Day Awards close Friday 29 November 2025.
