Lake Benalla boardwalk upgrade works underway

27 April 2026

Benalla Rural City Council has commenced upgrade works on the eastern Lake Benalla boardwalk in front of the Ceramic Mural, delivering improved safety, accessibility and long-term durability for the community.

A section of the boardwalk will be temporarily closed while Council contractors replace the existing timber decking with a more durable and environmentally friendly wood-plastic composite surface.

Deputy Mayor Cr Justin King said the upgrade is an important investment in one of Benalla’s most popular walking routes.

“The Lake Benalla Trail is used every day by locals and visitors, so it’s essential that the infrastructure supporting it is safe, accessible and built to last,” Cr King said.

“This upgrade will ensure the boardwalk remains a reliable and enjoyable part of the trail for many years to come.”

Works are expected to be completed by Friday 29 May, weather permitting.

To ensure safe movement around the site, accessible detours are in place with detailed signage at the site.

Detour Information:

From the north

Follow the accessible footpath to Mair Street (past the Ceramic Mural), then continue along Bridge Street East to Nunn Street. Cross to the south side of Bridge Street, continue along Nunn Street to Fawckner Drive, cross to the Benalla Library, then use the access driveway west of the Library to reconnect with the Benalla Lake Trail.
