Live4Life Benalla held successful 2025 program launch

09 May 2025

Benalla Rural City Council is proud to celebrate the launch of the Live4Life Benalla 2025 program — a vital community initiative focused on improving youth mental health and preventing youth suicide.

Held on 7 May 2025 at the Benalla Indoor Recreation Centre, the launch brought together more than 130 enthusiastic Year 8 students from Benalla P-12 College, FCJ College and the Australian Christian College in a day of learning, connection, and fun.

The event introduced students to the Live4Life model in a safe, supportive, and engaging environment. They were given a preview of their upcoming Teen Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training, which they will participate in across Term 2. This nationally recognised training is designed to equip young people with the skills and confidence to identify signs of mental health problems and seek help for themselves or their peers.

The launch day wasn’t all learning – students also enjoyed a range of fun and interactive activities organised by passionate Live4Life Crew members from Benalla P-12 College and FCJ College. The Crew, made up of local student leaders, played an important role in welcoming their peers and demonstrating the supportive peer-to-peer spirit at the heart of the program.

Mayor Bernie Hearn, commended the energy and commitment of the students and schools involved.

“Our young people are our future, and it is inspiring to see them taking the lead in supporting one another’s mental wellbeing,” Cr Hearn said.

“Live4Life not only builds knowledge — it builds community. This program ensures our young people feel seen, heard, and empowered to act when it matters most.”

Cr. Hearn also extended her thanks to the many partners involved.

“This work would not be possible without the dedication and collaboration of the entire Live4Life Benalla Partnership. We thank our funding partners and delivery organisations for their continued commitment to youth mental health in our region.”

The Live4Life Benalla Partnership includes Benalla Rural City Council, Benalla P-12 College, FCJ College Benalla, Flexible Learning Centre, Australian Christian College, the Tomorrow Today Foundation, Benalla Health, NESAY, and NE Tracks LLEN.

The collective group vision ensures local young people are equipped with life-saving knowledge and empowered with confidence and compassion.

Live4Life is a movement that brings schools, community organisations, health services and young people together to change the conversation around mental health.

The community is encouraged to continue supporting this critical initiative and celebrate the journey these students are beginning.
