At midday on Wednesday 27 May 2026, millions of children, parents, teachers, and library lovers across Australia and beyond will come together to read Luna Roo: The Kangaroo Baller at the same time – celebrating the joy of reading, storytelling and connection.
Benalla Rural City Council is inviting families and community members to join us at the Sir Edward ‘Weary’ Dunlop Learning Centre (Benalla Library) for National Simultaneous Storytime at midday on Wednesday 27 May 2026.
This year’s featured book, Luna Roo: The Kangaroo Baller by Adam Jackson and Adrian Lloyd, illustrated by Jake Minton, is a joyful story that celebrates teamwork, determination and having the courage to try something new.
Mayor Cr Bernie Hearn said this event is a highlight on the library calendar and a wonderful opportunity to bring the community together.
“National Simultaneous Storytime is a great way for us to come together and share a story,” Cr Hearn said.
“This year’s book focuses on action, teamwork and fun. It offers great messages for our children about navigating nerves, facing tricky opponents and overcoming the unexpected hurdles they encounter every day.”
Coordinated nationally by the Australian Library and Information Association, National Simultaneous Storytime encourages a love of books and literacy by having the same story read aloud in libraries, classrooms and homes at the same moment.
Benalla Library will host a group reading of Luna Roo: The Kangaroo Baller, for children and families.
“Our library team always does a fantastic job running these events,” Cr Hearn said. “We look forward to welcoming the community for this special storytime.”
