Benalla Rural City Council is pleased to announce the installation of a new water pump at Casey’s Weir, providing much-needed assistance to farmers across the municipality.
The pump allows users to access water from the Broken River in response to the ongoing drought conditions across the region.
Cr Bernie Hearn acknowledged the challenges local farmers are facing due to the dry conditions, particularly in feeding and watering of livestock.
“We know how hard the drought is for our farmers, not just financially but emotionally too. The pump installation reflects Benalla Rural City Council’s commitment to supporting our local communities, particularly in times of need,” Cr Hearn said.
“This new pump is one way Council is helping our farmers during this difficult time.”
“Our farming community is the backbone of this region, this pump shows we are standing beside them during the drought,” added Cr Hearn.
Council encourages farmers to make use of this resource while following the posted conditions of use.
The water pump, which is free to use, was introduced to help alleviate some of the stress caused by limited water supplies. Farmers will find it easy to operate, with clear instructions available onsite to guide use. This resource is strictly for stock and domestic use only.
The water pump at Casey’s Weir is located on the Midland Highway, just before the intersection of the Benalla-Tocumwal Road.
