Recruiting School Crossing Supervisors in Benalla

08 May 2026

There’s something special about starting the day with a friendly wave, a quick chat and the knowledge that you’re helping local kids get to school safely.

Benalla Rural City Council is recruiting new School Crossing Supervisors, and we’re looking for community‑minded people who enjoy being active, reliable and part of the daily rhythm of our town.

School Crossing Supervisors play a much‑valued role in our community, helping students and families cross the road safely during peak school times. It’s a great way to stay active, connect with others and contribute to the wellbeing of Benalla’s young people.

Mayor Cr Bernie Hearn said the role is one of the quiet strengths of the community.

“Every school day, our supervisors are out there making sure children feel safe and supported,” Cr Hearn said.

“It’s a simple job in many ways, but it has a big impact. Our supervisors become familiar faces for families, and they help build that sense of trust and connection that makes Benalla Rural City such a welcoming place.”

The position works closely with Council staff and liaises with school children, families, school staff, pedestrians and drivers. Supervisors are expected to maintain exceptional customer service and respond promptly and courteously to all enquiries.

The successful candidate needs to:

  • be community‑minded and able to build strong rapport with community members
  • have a professional manner and provide clear instructions to school crossing users
  • be friendly, reliable and flexible, with good verbal communication skills.

“If you’re looking for a role that’s meaningful, social and fits well around other commitments, this could be a great opportunity,” she said.

For a confidential discussion about the role, please contact our Compliance Officer, Michelle Dodemaide on 03 5760 2600.

An Employment Information Pack can be downloaded from www.benalla.vic.gov.au or requested by phoning Human Resources Coordinator Rhonda McDonald on 03 5760 2662.

Applications addressing the key selection criteria close 5pm, Friday 29 May 2026.
