Application for Siting Approval of a Temporary Structure

Benalla Rural City Council advises that any person or organisation intending to install temporary structures for an event must obtain formal approval in accordance with the Building Act 1993 and Building Regulations 2018.

This application form is required for the siting of prescribed temporary structures such as:

• Marquees and tents
• Stages and platforms
• Temporary fencing or barriers
• Prefabricated buildings not placed directly on the ground
• Seating stands accommodating more than 20 persons

2. Fill in the form, ensuring all required details are accurate and complete.
3. Lodge your application via the Customer Portal.

Submission Requirements

Applications must be submitted to the Customer Portal under POPE no less than three weeks prior to the scheduled event date. This timeframe allows Council to assess the application, conduct any necessary inspections, and ensure compliance with relevant building and safety standards.

Applicants are required to provide:

• Full event details including dates, location, and expected attendance
• Contact information for both the applicant and event coordinator
• A detailed description of the event
• A scaled site plan showing the location and dimensions of all temporary structures
• A schedule of structures with corresponding Victorian Building Authority Occupancy Permits, where applicable

If the event is to be held wholly or partially on a roadway, or if entry is subject to a fee or other consideration, this must be clearly indicated in the application.
