Lost Animals

Report lost or found pets in Benalla. Learn about local animal shelter processes, RSPCA Victoria support, and reclaiming pets. Contact us to ensure a swift pet recovery.

If you’ve lost or found a pet, contact the Council to report it and check if the animal is at a local pound or shelter. Benalla Rural City will generally hold an animal for up to 24 hours, depending on transfer schedules, before it is transported by Councils contracted pound facility, RSPCA Victoria to its Burwood East facility. If an impounded dog or cat is claimed by the owner after transport to RSPCA Burwood, they will deliver the animal back to Benalla upon payment of registration and release fees (if applicable).

If your pet is missing, please contact us as your first point of enquiry on 03 5760 2600. Should you need to contact RSPCA Victoria Burwood East, please call 03 9224 2222 and select option 4.

If you lose your dog or cat and we pick it up, we won’t charge you a release fee for the first time if your animal is registered with Benalla Rural City Council. If it’s not the first time, you may be charged a release fee.
