Support available through 2026/27 Event Funding Program

26 June 2026

Benalla Rural City Council is inviting local community groups, event organisers and partner organisations to apply for support through the 2026/27 Event Funding Program, which opens on Wednesday 1 July and will remain open until the annual allocation is exhausted.

The program provides financial assistance to events that bring people together, attract visitors, strengthen community connections and boost the local economy. Funding is available across two tiers, reflecting expected event size and impact:

  • Minor Events: up to $1,500 for events attracting fewer than 1,000 visitors
  • Major Events: up to $3,000 for events attracting more than 1,000 visitors.

Mayor Cr Bernie Hearn said the program continues to play an important role in supporting a vibrant and active events calendar across the municipality.

“Events help bring our community together,” Cr Hearn said. “This funding supports organisers to run great activities that people can enjoy, and it helps show visitors what Benalla Rural City has to offer.”

Cr Hearn encouraged groups to apply early, noting the strong demand for funding each year.

“We know how much passion and hard work goes into planning local events,” Cr Hearn said. “By applying early and ensuring all documentation is complete, organisers give their event the best chance of success.”

Applicants must submit their application at least eight weeks before their event and provide all required documentation, including insurance, quotes, financial information and an Australian Tourism Data Warehouse (ATDW) listing to maximise promotion and reach.

Council also encourages event organisers to discuss their proposal with the Tourism and Events Officer before applying.

To support community groups preparing applications, Council, together with the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action (DECCA) is hosting a free workshop.
